On the afternoon of May 29, as the 2025 “National Science and Technology Workers’ Day” approaches, Guo Fei, a young doctoral researcher at the China-Russia (Zhuji) International Laboratory, initiated and led a training session on cutting-edge technologies in the field of new materials research and development.
This training session, themed “Exploring Methods for Detecting Solubilized Rare Earth Elements in Steel,” featured Dr. Guo Fei, who, drawing on his solid research background and forward-looking perspective, shared and exchanged insights on key technological areas related to the development of this new material.

At the training session, Dr. Guo systematically explained the key characteristics of rare-earth elements in steel. He provided a detailed overview of the primary existing forms of rare-earth elements, their core mechanisms of action, and methods for detecting rare-earth elements in steel. Additionally, he conducted an in-depth analysis of the ferrite phase transformation in steel and its influencing factors. Through rigorous experimental methods and data analysis, he convincingly demonstrated that rare-earth elements can exist in steel in a solid-solution state. The session also included an interactive Q&A and discussion segment, during which participants eagerly asked questions, and Dr. Guo patiently answered each one. This training enabled all participants to gain a profound understanding of the properties of rare-earth elements and left them with abundant insights and knowledge.

Guo Fei, Ph.D., graduated from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of China (Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences). He was supervised by Academician Li Dianzhong and Researcher Wang Pei. His research primarily focuses on the microalloying effects of solid-soluted rare-earth elements in steels. Currently, he is conducting research on metal-based composite materials at the China-Russia (Zhuji) International Laboratory.
