On July 22, Pan Cunxiang, Secretary-General of the Xinjiang Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, and Ji Ling, President of the Xinjiang New Materials Association (in preparation), along with one other member of their delegation, visited the laboratory. Chairman Zheng Huating and Deputy General Manager Xiao Jianfeng provided a detailed introduction covering the lab’s core technology R&D directions, key products and solutions, and progress on industrial projects.
Secretary-General Pan stated that the China-Russia Joint Laboratory focuses on the research and development of foundational materials technologies. Regarding “bottleneck” technologies, domestically produced alternatives are gradually taking shape. The laboratory’s core technologies hold broad application prospects in areas such as new electrical materials, high-voltage power transmission and transformation, and wind power generation. Xinjiang boasts abundant mineral resources, outstanding high-purity aluminum production enterprises, and an exceptionally rich supply of green energy sources like wind power, enabling it to achieve complementary advantages with the laboratory in terms of industrial chain integration.
Chairman Ji stated that Xinjiang is a land of great promise. The Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Ministry of Science and Technology promptly dispatched teams to Xinjiang for research, fully demonstrating the high priority that the Party Central Committee and the State Council attach to scientific and technological innovation in Xinjiang, as well as their strong support for innovative resources—including policies, projects, bases, platforms, and talent. Chairman Ji noted that Dr. Lei Li, the executive director of the laboratory, hails from Xinjiang. He welcomed Dr. Lei’s efforts to bring advanced ideas and cutting-edge science and technology back to his hometown, leveraging the international experience gained from the China-Russia Joint Laboratory to boost local scientific and technological development and revitalize its industries.
